SENIOR FELLOWSHIP OF APIL

Accreditation as a Senior Fellow

On 17 April, whilst attending the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers'  annual conference, I was awarded accreditation as a Senior Fellow.

This is a great honour as there are only a handful of senior fellows in the country.  The assessment criteria is based on the Bar Standards Board criteria for Queens Counsel.

This accreditation reflects my contribution to the development of personal injury law over the years:   in particular the extensive reforms forced on the Motor Insurance Bureau who were forced to remove a large number of unjust and unlawful exclusions of liability from the Uninsured Drivers Agreement, first in 2015 and later in 2017 and to publish and later amend its Untraced Drivers Agreement 2017.  Furthermore, my legal research and activism led to the High Court declaring that parts of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the EC Rights Against Insurers Regulations 2002 and both MIB compensation schemes failed to properly implement the minium standards of compensatory protection mandated under European Law by the Motor Insurance Directive 2009/103/EC. This activism led to the victims of the London and Westminster Bridge terrorism outrages receiving substantially higher levels of compensation.  The accreditation also reflects the way I have disseminated legal know-how and expertise through my publications and training sessions over the years as well as my extensive pro bona work.
